21 (actually 22 with The Way as a hidden track!) Songs from the sessions to a of the best rock albums of all time. Some 70 songs were recorded (!!!) at the time, but not completed or partially Fragments from each song used for other songs. Only 10 songs have made it at the time of the Darkness album, all of the most sinister kind, others such as Fire or Because The Night have been sold to other musicians who had hits with Bruce's songs. Others have made their way to the future River-album (for example, Sherry Darling, Drive All Night, Point Blank, Ties That Bind, Independence Day), while others were released in 1998 on tracks (eg Do not Look Back). Still others, like Preacher's Daughter remain unpublished. And now these 22 songs that were album between Born to Run and Darkness are to form. It would become a classic in my opinion just like Darkness and Born to Run. In
Springsteen fans is considerable debate whether it is good place, that the songs were reworked considerably. But: Many of the songs were never completed and thus did not exist completely. And the original production of the Darkness album was anyway m. E. extremely bad. Sound and production of The Promise are awarded against it.
The Promise once again proves that Springsteen one of - if not the - is the biggest singer / songwriters in rock / pop business. The quality of every single song on this double album is so high that any other would-be rock superstar would freeze in fear. Nice that more and more bands, that are hip today, recognize and Bruce Springsteen - rightly - regard as their role model (Arcade Fire, U2, The Gaslight Anthem, Kings Of Leon, The Killers, Pearl Jam, Amy MacDonald, to name a few).
